MAKING MUSIC
MAKE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS THAT CAN BE USED FOR A BAND OR CLUB RADIO PERFORMANCE, OR JUST A SING ALONG.
Shaker:
Empty plastic bottle, Dried pasta, rice or lentils
Glitter or sequins
Glue and anything to decorate
How to make:
Fill the bottle 1/4 – 1/2 full with the pasta rice or lentils (and glitter or sequins if desired) and secure
the lid back on.
Decorate as desired.
Humming Flute:
Cardboard tube (rolled from card if required)
Wax or greaseproof paper
Rubber band
Pencil
How to Make:
With a pencil, poke 3 or 4 holes in the cardboard tube about 3cm apart then cut a 10cm square of
wax paper.
Secure the wax paper over one end of the cardboard roll using the rubber band.
Your flute is now ready to play
You can also decorate the tube before you put on the wax paper.
Paper Plate Tambourine:
2 Paper Plates
Crayons
Dried Beans or similar
Stapler or Glue

Decorate the paper plates however you want.
Put one paper plate on the table, with the right side up.
Place the other paper plate on top of the first one, right side down. This will make a gap in the
middle. Start stapling the edges together.
Leave an opening at the top to slide a handful of dried beans in.
Finish by stapling it shut.
Other Ideas – shakers using crisp tins and split peas/lentils or even nuts and bolts; cut out guitars or any
other instrument; drums using jars or tins, grease proof paper and an elastic band to hold it on, comb and
paper; spoons
